FCCPC urges Nigerians to report harassing loan apps, provides complaint guidelines

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has advised Nigerians to report loan apps and businesses that harass customers over unpaid debts.

The commission also provided clear steps on how affected individuals can file complaints.

Many Nigerians turn to online loan apps for quick financial relief, but some lenders resort to harassment when borrowers fail to repay on time. These tactics often include sending embarrassing messages—sometimes with photos—to borrowers’ contacts.

News Round The Clock in May 2024 reported that the FCCPC was actively working to block loan apps engaging in these unethical practices.

    6. If applicable, provide the receipt number, account number, or meter number.

    10. Submit the complaint.

The FCCPC continues to take action against digital lenders engaging in illegal debt collection practices, urging consumers to report any instances of harassment for proper intervention.
