Yeni Kuti during a conversation with media personality, Chude Jideonwo stated that her father, the late Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was not a ‘good’ father.
During the session, Kuti acknowledged her father’s musical prowess. She stated that her father is an icon and an influential figure across the globe.
Yeni said she never confronted her dad about not being a good father, but the late singer and his first son, Femi were always at loggerheads.

She said, āHe [Fela] was not quite a good father. No [I never told him that he isnāt a good father]. Maybe Femi, not me. Femi and Fela used to have battles. And Femi will give it to him straight.
āShola and I, we were like timid. You know, they said, āWhen two elephants are fighting, the grass will keep quiet.”

She continued,
āI can remember one day, Fela just came and said, āthree of you are useless childrenā. Femi just said, āfor what?ā Femi just started facing him and then they started facing each other. Shola and I will say, āitās okayā. Fela will say, āNoā. And Femi just said, ālet him goā.
āI donāt think I have ever had that kind of confrontation with my father. Maybe because I was a woman.ā
