The Federal Government has announced that Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, will be public holidays.

This decision is in celebration of Eid-ul-Adha, an Islamic festival observed by Muslims around the world.

The announcement was made on Monday through the Ministry of Interior in Abuja.

The minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, approved the holidays on behalf of the government.

He extended greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and abroad, urging them to reflect on the values of faith and sacrifice that the season represents.

Eid-ul-Adha, often referred to as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most important dates in the Islamic calendar.

It honours the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God, and Muslims mark the occasion with prayers, charity, and the sharing of meat with family and the less privileged.

The government used the opportunity to call for unity and collective efforts toward national development.

Citizens were encouraged to support ongoing efforts by the current administration to improve the country and move it forward.

The minister expressed hope that the public holidays would provide time for peaceful celebration and reflection, as well as encourage prayers for a better Nigeria.
