FG declares March 29, April 1 as public holidays for Easter

The Federal Government has declared that Friday, March 29th, and Monday, April 1st, will be observed as public holidays to honor Good Friday and Easter Monday, respectively.

The announcement came from Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, through a statement released on Wednesday by Aishetu Ndayako, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary.

Encouraging the nation to reflect on the spirit of sacrifice and love exemplified by Jesus Christ during his crucifixion, Minister Tunji-Ojo emphasized the broader significance of Easter beyond its religious connotations.

ā€œEaster, beyond religious significance, promotes values of love, forgiveness, and compassion, which are essential for social cohesion and harmony,ā€ the statement reads.

In his statement, the Minister extended warm Easter wishes to Christians both within Nigeria and across the globe.

He also called upon all Nigerians to unite with the administration led by President Tinubu in its commitment to achieving sustainable development and prosperity for the nation.

Furthermore, Minister Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to demonstrate acts of charity and generosity towards the less fortunate, aligning with President Tinubu’s vision for a hopeful future marked by collective welfare and inclusivity.

ā€œWhile wishing Christians at home and abroad a happy and blissful Easter celebration, the Minister also called on Nigerians to join hands with President Tinubu-led Administration in its determination to bring sustainable development and usher in prosperity for all.ā€
