FG introduces free cesarean section services to combat maternal mortality

The Federal Government has announced that Cesarean Sections will now be provided at no cost to women in need, marking a major step in addressing the country’s high maternal mortality rate.

Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Pate, confirmed this initiative on Thursday at the Nigeria Health Sector-Wide Joint Annual Review in Abuja.

Describing the move as a bold commitment to reducing maternal and newborn mortality, Mr. Pate emphasized the importance of accessible healthcare for all women.

In a post shared by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare on X, the announcement read, “In a powerful move, Coordinating Minister @muhammadpate just announced that Cesarean Sections for all Nigerian women who need them will now be FREE!”

Mr. Pate reiterated that no woman should lose her life due to financial barriers to essential maternal healthcare.
