FG to implement stringent measures in distribution of Agro-inputs to genuine farmers

The Federal Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, has emphasised the Federal Government’s (FG) commitment to implementing stringent measures in the distribution of agro-inputs to genuine farmers, ensuring transparency in the upcoming Wet Season farming. 

This commitment he said aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of emergence on food security.

Minister Kyari reiterated this stance while hosting Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Sokoto, in his office in Abuja, emphasising the goal of driving agricultural transformation, enhancing productivity, and providing necessary support for farmers to thrive.

He also highlighted the aim of ensuring food security and reducing food inflation.

Furthermore, Minister Kyari emphasised the importance of fostering strong partnerships and collaborations between the states and the federal government to promote food security and agricultural development in Nigeria. 

He commended Sokoto State’s achievements in the agricultural sector, citing efforts such as the provision of agricultural input support and the construction of the Kware Irrigation Scheme.

The minister stressed the need to apply lessons learned from the review of the Wheat Dry Season Farming implementation to enhance the agricultural development agenda. 

He mentioned the Expression of Interest for Dry Season production of Rice, Maize, and Cassava, designed to assess the readiness of participating states and ensure farmers’ access to agro-inputs.

Governor Aliyu of Sokoto State highlighted the state’s significant agricultural activities, including both Dry and Wet Season farming, and efforts to support farmers through the distribution of free fertilizers and identification of genuine farmers.

Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Abdullahi Aliyu, expressed optimism about addressing the issue of fake farmers, emphasising the government’s commitment to transparency in agricultural support programs.

Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State pledged partnership with the federal government and announced significant investments in agricultural mechanization and technology, underscoring the state’s potential for agricultural development and its role in promoting employment and food security.
