FIFPRO says it is time for NFF to pay Super Falcons “outstanding amounts”

The International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPRO) has stated that it is assisting Super Falcons players in disagreement with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over bonus payments and camp allowances.

FIFPRO released a statement regarding this on Tuesday, following the elimination of the Super Falcons from the Women’s World Cup.

“Following the Nigeria women’s national team’s elimination from the FIFA Women’s World Cup, FIFPRO can confirm it is assisting players in a disagreement with the Nigeria Football Federation concerning bonus payments, camp allowances and expenses, some of which date back to 2021,” FIFPRO stated.

“During the World Cup, the players expressed the desire to remain focused on their performance without making public statements or facing other distractions.

“However, the Super Falcons believe that it is now time for the Nigeria Football Federation to honour their commitments and pay the outstanding amounts.

The statement also read that the team is “extremely frustrated” because they have to pursue the NFF for these payments.

The statement further read: “It is regrettable that players needed to challenge their own federation at such an important time in their careers.

“FIFPRO will continue to work with the players to ensure their contractual rights are honoured and the outstanding payments are settled.”

Days to the commencement of the World Cup, coach of Super Falcons, Randy Waldrum had an altercation with the NFF.

During an interview, Waldrum complained bitterly about how the NFF dismissed second choice goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi. This, according to Waldrum, occurred after the veteran goalkeeper spoke to the football body about not getting paid.

He also said the federation later allowed her back only if “she wrote an apology letter.”

One of the various ugly incidents involving the Super Falcons and the NFF happened during last year’s WAFCON. The players boycotted the team’s 3rd-place match after NFF failed to pay the players’ allowances for the group stage matches.
