Popular Nigerian television presenter Frank Edoho has shared the reason the iconic quiz programme, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, was discontinued after years on air.
Speaking during an interview on the KK Show, Edoho disclosed that the programme came to an end after its long-time sponsor withdrew financial support.
According to him, the company, which sponsored the show for about 10 years, pulled out after being hit with a hefty fine by the Federal Government, making it difficult to continue funding the programme.

He said the sponsor informed the show’s producers that the financial obligation to settle the government penalty left it unable to sustain its commitment to the television show.
“Who Wants to be a Millionaire sort of came to an end when our sponsor withdrew so I don’t know if I can mention brand names but our sponsor stayed with us for a decade sponsoring the show, then I think the Federal Government fined them based on some industry – I think it was like a punitive measure for one corporate thing but that affected the sponsorship of Who Wants to be a Millionaire.
“So they said hey guys we can’t do this anymore based on the fact that we have to pay an incredible sum of money back to the Federal Government,” Edoho said.
