Nigerian singer Adedamola ‘Fireboy’ Adefolahan has sparked debate by claiming that Ghana’s senior men’s national football team, the Black Stars, currently outperform Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
During a recent appearance on the 90s Baby Show, the Afrobeat star drew a line between talent and cohesion, explaining that the Ghanian team has an edge in team work, not individual brilliance, over the Super Eagles.
According to the ‘Obaa Sima’ hit singer, Nigeria is stacked with gifted players, but Ghana performs better as a unit.
“Right now, Ghana is a better team [than Nigeria’s Super Eagles]. Individually, we [Nigerians] are better. But as a team, Ghana is better,” he said.

He further criticized the Super Eagles’ inability to harness individual talent into a consistent team performance.
“For some reason, we have not been able to combine the brilliance of each player to form a solid team. I think it will take time. We have a lot of talents but we have not been able to utilise them.”
Fireboy also pointed out the gap in midfield quality, citing Thomas Partey’s dominance as something Nigeria can’t currently match.
“Unlike Ghana, we don’t have a good midfield. Thomas Partey alone, we don’t have a midfield to battle that. You saw how Partey handled Real Madrid during their Champions League clash with Arsenal. We don’t have that.”
With Nigeria and Ghana set to face off again next month at the Unity Cup in London, Fireboy’s remarks have added fuel to an already fiery rivalry.
