Glory in London: Super Eagles edge Jamaica on penalties to win 2025 Unity Cup

The Super Eagles of Nigeria lifted the 2025 Unity Cup in dramatic fashion after edging Jamaica 5–4 on penalties in a pulsating final held in London.

Both sides had played out a thrilling 2–2 draw in regulation time before the shootout decided the contest.

Nigeria took an early lead through Moses Simon in the 9th minute, but Jamaica hit back just three minutes later via Kaheim Dixon. Despite Nigeria’s continued pressure, the first half ended all square.

However, early in the second half, Samuel Chukwueze restored Nigeria’s lead in the 53rd minute. Yet again, Jamaica responded swiftly, with J. Russell leveling things in the 63rd minute, ensuring the match went the full distance.

With no extra-time in the format, the game headed straight to a penalty shootout. The Super Eagles held their nerve, converting all five of their spot kicks.

Meanwhile, Jamaica pushed Nigeria to the brink, showcasing resilience and flair. But ultimately, it was the Super Eagles’ composure and clinical execution from the spot that proved the difference.

The Unity Cup triumph in London adds another feather to their cap and serves as a huge boost heading into upcoming international competitions.
