Gov Abiodun hails Remo Stars on winning NPFL

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has congratulated Remo Stars Football Club for their historic triumph in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

In a statement posted on the state government X page, he described the victory as an unprecedented milestone in the state’s sporting history.

Remo Stars clinched their first-ever NPFL title on Sunday, April 27, with a narrow 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes—a feat Abiodun said showcased the team’s unwavering commitment and determination.

Governor commended the club for upholding Ogun State’s reputation for excellence.

He noted that the club’s perseverance and consistent pursuit of excellence had finally borne fruit.

“Remo Stars have consistently demonstrated patriotic zeal and an unrelenting drive for success since their inception. Their rise to the top of the NPFL, coupled with their earlier promotion to the elite league just four years ago, reflects the team’s remarkable capacity and discipline,” he said.

Governor Abiodun also celebrated the team’s achievement as the first privately-owned club to win the NPFL since 1996, which has now earned them a spot in the CAF Champions League.

“This victory is not only a source of pride for Ogun State but for the entire nation, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who joins millions of Nigerians in celebrating this remarkable accomplishment,” he said.

The governor further urged other local football clubs across Nigeria to emulate Remo Stars’ resilience and professionalism, noting that such values were essential to elevating the status of the nation’s local leagues.

“This is a testament to Ogun State’s tradition of being first in excellence, and it aligns perfectly with our ISEYA development agenda,” he added.
