Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu receives Oshoala, Ajibade, Gift Monday in Lagos


Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has received the trio of Super Falcons players Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade and Monday Gift.

The Governor received them at the Government House, Alausa, Ikeja on Tuesday.

Oshoala, Gift and Ajibade were all part of the Super Falcons squad that reached the last 16 of the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Nigeria recorded one win and two goalless draws in the group stage. Randy Waldrum’s charges drew 0-0 with both Canada and Ireland and beat co-hosts Australia 3-2 in-between.

The Super Falcons also played another goalless draw against England after 120 minutes. However, Nigeria were beaten 4-2 on penalties and was knocked out of the tournament.

“Honoured to have received some team members of our remarkable Super Falcons at the Lagos House in Marina earlier today,” Governor Sanwo-Olu tweeted.

“Asisat Oshoala who came in company of Rasheedat Ajibade and Monday Gift, came to pay us a courtesy visit.

“The Super Falcons’ incredible run at the FIFA Women’s World Cup has ignited a new era of enthusiasm for women’s football in Nigeria. Their achievements on the field and the unity they brought to our nation are truly remarkable. We will continue to empower and encourage our female athletes, and also work towards a brighter future for women’s football in Nigeria.

“A big thank you to these amazing ladies for their visit, and for the gifts of the clubs jerseys.”
