In a move to enhance transparency and efficiency in Edo State’s public service sector, Governor Monday Okpebholo has announced the restoration of full statutory rights to the Oba of Benin.
The governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua said the decision underscored the governor’s commitment to respecting traditional institutions and fostering harmony between government and cultural stakeholders.
Additionally, as part of sweeping reforms aimed at streamlining governance, Governor Okpebholo has approved the immediate dissolution of the Local Government Service Commission.
This development is part of the governor’s broader strategy to ensure efficiency and improve the performance of public sector institutions across the state.
Governor Okpebholo assured citizens and staff of the Commission that ongoing official activities would remain unaffected by the dissolution.

“This move became necessary to revitalize our Local Government Service Commission and reposition it for more efficient service delivery,” the governor said.
“By this decision, we aim to eliminate inefficiency and build a more accountable and effective local service structure.”
Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his commitment to engaging with stakeholders to develop a robust restructuring plan for the Commission.
He emphasised that the reforms align with the state government’s dedication to delivering transparent, effective, and efficient public services to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach the people of Edo State.
He promised to provide updates on the restructuring process and upcoming changes to the Local Government Service Commission in due course.
