Grammy Win: Tinubu, Saraki, Funke, and celebrities congratulate Tems 


The Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Lagos State People Democratic Party (PDP), Deputy governorship candidate, Funke Akindele, and other celebrities have felicitated with singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems for her Grammy win.

Tems made history to become the first Nigeria female singer to win Grammy as the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category at the 65th edition of the awards held on Sunday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, U.S. for her role in ‘Wait for U’, the 2022 hit song by Future featuring Drake.

Tinubu and Saraki took to their Twitter pages to congratulate the singer for Grammy win, her achievement in the music industry, saying the country is proud of her for making Nigeria earn respect among its counterparts.

Tinubu wrote, “I join other Nigerians in congratulating Temilade Opentyi aka Tems @temsbaby on winning the Grammy award in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category for her contribution to the hit song “Wait for U” – featuring Future and Drake.” 

Saraki also shared the singer’s picture with a caption, “Congratulations to the trailblazing Tems #temsbaby for making history as the first female Nigerian artist to receive a Grammy Award!”

Celebrating the 27-year-old singer on the Grammy win on her Instagram page, Funke Akindele described her as a pride to Nigeria, Africa, and women all over the world, saying her originality made her stand out. 

The Lagos State deputy governorship candidate in the forthcoming election added that Tems Grammy win was an inspiration to the young women out there, urging them to keep pushing against all boundaries, keep working hard, and stay original to their craft, saying that, they can always get to the top. 

She wrote: “Congratulations @temsbaby on winning the Best Melodic Rap Performance at the #2023grammyawards You’re a pride to Nigeria, Africa, and women all over the world. Your originality made you stand out! 

“This is an inspiration to the young women out there, keep pushing against all boundaries, keep working hard, stay original to your craft and with these, you can always get to the top!”

Also celebrating the singer on her Instagram page, Nigerian songwriter Tiwatope Savage-Balogun, popularly known as Tiwa Savage described her as someone people already know, adding that it was love for life.

Savage on her Instagram Story wrote, “@temsbaby you already know. Love 4life.”

Another Nigerian singer-songwriter and actress, Omawumi Megbele, known by her stage name Omawumi shared a picture of Tems with the caption, Massive Congratulations @temsbaby.”

More so, Aituaje Iruobe, known professionally as Waje also congratulate her[Tems] for the Grammy win.

Similarly, an award-winning singer, Yemi Alade celebrated Tems for the Grammy win on her Twitter page.

As of the time of filing this report, many celebrities in the entertainment industry and politicians are still pouring out their congratulatory messages to the Tems for Grammy win as well as making the country proud with her talent.
