Gunmen Attack Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja


Gunmen

Reports have it that suspected gunmen have attacked the staff at the Federal Medical Center, Lokoja on Wednesday. The gunmen were suspected to be sponsored by the Kogi State Government.

There was an expected press conference to pressure the Federal Government into establishing a COVID-19 screening centre in the state. However, it was assumed that the expected press conference spurred the gunmen attack.

It was reported that the gunmen shot several times into the air to scare people away. Thereafter, they went to the records and admin department where they seized laptops and destroyed a few things. They equally disorganized the Medical Directorā€™s office, too.

Moreso, the management of the hospital pleaded with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps(NSCDC) not to exchange fire with the gunmen. It is no news that the governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello believes there are no Covid-19 cases in his state. According to the governor, Corona virus was made as an attempt to put fear in people and restrain their activities.

In addition, the corona virus cases so far announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control puts Kogi confirmed cases at three. However, the state government has asked its people to discard the information. This was because, according to them, there is no corona virus in the state.
