Haaland, Ødegaard, Mitrović nominated for Premier League Player of the Month award

Eight players have been nominated for the EA Sports Premier League Player of the Month award.

This comes on the back of the players’ outstanding league performances throughout the month of August 2022.

The nominees were announced on the Premier League’s official website. Fans will be allowed to vote for their favourite player via the EA SPORTS website. This will be until 12:00 BST on Monday 12 September.

It was also stated that the public vote will be combined with those of a panel of football experts to decide the winner. The winner will be announced next week.

Brighton’s Pascal Gross, leading top scorer Erling Haaland and Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus made the shortlist. Aleksandar Mitrović, Arsenal’s Martin Ødegaard and Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope also made the list.

Others are Leeds’ Rodrigo Moreno and Crystal Palace’s talismanic forward Wilfried Zaha.

During the month under review, Gross was directly involved in four of Brighton & Hove Albion’s six goals. He netted thrice, including two at Old Trafford. He also created one to help his team finish the month in fourth place.

Haaland scored nine goals, the most by any player after only five league matches. The Norwegian also became just the sixth player to grab a hat-trick in successive matches in the competition.

Gabriel Jesus and Martin Ødegaard were impressive performers for Arsenal in August. While Jesus contributed directly to six goals in his first five league appearances, Odegaard scored three times.

Both men were instrumental as the Gunners won their first five matches of the season for the first time since 2004-05.

Meanwhile, Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrović helped Fulham to two wins and two draws, scoring four times in five outings.

His strikes against Liverpool and Arsenal were crucial to the club’s performances during the month. He also became the joint highest-scoring Serb in Premier League history.

Pope, the only goalkeeper on the list, made 19 saves and kept two clean sheets in five games for Newcastle in August. He made the third-most saves in the month.

He has carried his unbelievable run into the month of September as he made nine solid saves against Crystal Palace on matchday six.

Rodrigo Moreno emerged only the second player to score in Leeds United’s first three matches of a Premier League season. He found the back of the net four times during the month and assisted a goal. His brace against Southampton helped secure a 2-2 draw.

Crystal Palace’s outings in August were largely buoyed by the performances of Ivorian Wilfred Zaha. The winger scored four out of the club’s seven goals. His goals came against Aston Villa (2), Liverpool and Brentford.
