Lewis Hamilton has revealed a deeply personal football allegiance ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The Ferrari driver says his loyalty will be shared between England and Brazil.
Speaking before the Monaco Grand Prix, the seven-time Formula One champion opened up about his long-standing admiration. He described a childhood shaped by watching Brazil’s flair and freedom.
“For me, it’s tied with England,” Hamilton said.
He added, “Honestly, Brazil has always been my favourite team.”
Growing up in England, Hamilton was captivated by Brazil’s rhythm and brilliance. He recalled how their style made football feel expressive and alive.
“I think it’s the colours, the culture, and the players always just looking the most skilled; they were so cool. I just appreciate where they (Brazil) come from.” Hamilton stated.
Hamilton’s bond with Brazil goes far beyond football fandom. He famously waved their flag after his 2021 Interlagos triumph.
Moreover, he received a race-worn helmet from Ayrton Senna’s family in 2017. That moment further created a symbolic connection between legacy and admiration.
In 2022, Brazil granted him honourary citizenship. He has often praised the country’s energy and spirit.
