Health workers, sports community endorse Oyebanji for second term

Health workers and members of the sports community in Ekiti State on Tuesday held an appreciation rally in support of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s second-term bid, praising his achievements across the health and sports sectors.

The rally, which took place at the Governor’s Office in Ado Ekiti, drew participants from all 16 local government areas.

Health professionals, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, midwives, laboratory scientists, and other allied workers, commended Oyebanji for prioritising their welfare and revitalising healthcare infrastructure across the state.

Speaking during the event, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Ekiti, Pharmacist Olatunde Kolapo; Dr Omolola Ajayi representing tertiary health workers; Elder Agunbiade of the Local Government Health Workers; and Dr Olajide Abimbola from the Hospital Management Board, all lauded the governor’s reforms.

They highlighted improved infrastructure, regular salary payments, better working conditions, and enhanced professional dignity as evidence of a responsive and people-centred administration.

The health workers declared their full support for Oyebanji’s re-election in 2026, stating that continuity was necessary to sustain the progress made so far.

They praised the governor’s consultative leadership style and consistent investment in health services, which they said had boosted morale and service delivery across all levels of the system.

Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani, described the show of support as a reflection of the far-reaching impact of the administration’s efforts.

He listed key achievements, including the implementation of hazard allowances and salary parity, the rehabilitation of 11 general hospitals, the renovation and equipping of 109 primary healthcare centres, and the establishment of emergency operation centres in all LGAs.

In a similar show of solidarity, athletes, coaches, and sports administrators also rallied in support of the governor.

They praised his transformation of the sports sector into a viable avenue for youth empowerment and economic opportunity.

Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon Idowu Odebunmi, and Technical Advisor on Sports, Dr Olusola Osetoba, said Oyebanji’s administration had upgraded the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium to world-class standards, constructed the state’s first indoor sports complex, and provided modern training equipment and improved welfare for athletes.

The sports community pledged to mobilise for the governor’s re-election, noting that continuity would deepen development and enhance the competitiveness of Ekiti’s sporting talents.

Responding on behalf of the governor, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, thanked the health and sports communities for their support.

She described the rally as a humbling validation of the administration’s work and urged participants to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to ensure Governor Oyebanji’s re-election.

Others at the event included the Head of Service, Dr (Mrs.) Folakemi Olomojobi; Chief of Staff, Mr Niyi Adebayo; Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon.. Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun; and Special Adviser on Political Matters, Chief Jide Awe.
