‘Her honesty shocked me’: Kazim Adeoti reflects on early bond with Mercy Aigbe

Nollywood movie producer Kazim Adeoti has shed light on how his connection with popular actress Mercy Aigbe began, long before they eventually became husband and wife.

During a recent chat with Oyinmomo TV, Adeoti took a walk down memory lane, reflecting on his initial professional encounters with Mercy.

He spoke highly of her sincerity and principled nature, describing them as the qualities that made a lasting impression on him.

According to the filmmaker, their first project together was the 2011 film Hajia Jemila. He said that unlike many others in the industry who often grumbled about being underpaid, Mercy did something unexpected.

“What I really admire about her is her honesty and straightforwardness; it’s something I truly respect,” Kazim said. “After I paid her for Hajia Jemila, I was expecting the usual complaints about low fees. Instead, she came back to say there was extra money left. I was genuinely shocked.”

He went on to say that at the time, he had been warned against building working relationships with women in the industry, being told it could derail his success. But Mercy’s work ethic and demeanor changed his perspective entirely.

“People told me to avoid working closely with women if I wanted to succeed. But I gave her a chance, and she proved everyone wrong. She’s not only a woman but a beautiful one who conducts herself with great integrity,” he added.

Although he never reclaimed the money she returned, Kazim said their working relationship continued from that moment—and eventually turned into something deeper.

Their marriage has faced its fair share of public scrutiny, especially with accusations that Mercy “snatched” Kazim from his first wife, Funsho Adeoti. Nonetheless, Kazim’s recent remarks point to a bond rooted in mutual trust and admiration.
