Hilda Effiong Bassey also known as Hilda Baci, has today been officially confirmed as the new world record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual. The Nigerian star cooked for 93 hours and 11 minutes over four days non-stop.
In a statement released on the Guinness World Records website on Tuesday 13 June, the platform mentioned that Hilda Baci now holds the record for the longest cooking marathon.
Hilda comfortably surpassed the previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes set by Lata Tondon of India in 2019. The Akwa Ibom chefās exhilarating achievement trended online and around the world for several days.
No Stimulants Allowed
Hilda stood throughout and was not permitted to sit whilst cooking. She was not allowed any stimulants. No coffee and energy drinks to artificially boost her energy and bodily strength whilst cooking. She cooked round the clock, with no sleep and was permitted just 5 minutes rest per hour.
First Rate Medical Care
The 27-year-old cooked hundreds of tasty meals including national favourite Jollof rice. These were served to the thousands of Nigerians who visited Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria for free.
Every day for the four days, Hilda received first-rate medical care from a team of doctors and nutritionists. The practitioners expertly managed her through challenging periods. This including a point where she experienced vomiting and displayed signs of exhaustion and fatigue.
Support Nationwide
Hilda had the support of her sous chef, Sunny, her family including her supportive mother and friends. She also had support from politicians including former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari. Furthermore, support from celebrities such as self-proclaimed queen of Afro beats, Tiwa Savage. Additionally, thousands of well-wishers nationwide cheered her on.

The determination and perseverance Hilda showed throughout her gruelling Cook-A-Thon; was simply admirable. Hilda’s endurance and drive has inspired a lot of people globally.
