Nigeria’s U19 women’s cricket team secured a groundbreaking win, defeating New Zealand by 2 runs at the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup in Malaysia.
The rain-shortened match, reduced to 13 overs per side, saw the Yellow Greens shine in a historic first-ever World Cup victory.
Captain of the Nigeria side Lucky Piety was the star of the day, contributing 18 runs off 22 balls. She also took one wicket for just eight runs in three overs. Her efforts earned her the Player of the Match award and ensured Nigeria’s spot in the Super Six stage.

In tennis, Team Nigeria dominated the ITF/CAT West and Central Africa Junior Championships held in Lomé, Togo. They finished as the top nation, amassing an impressive 1,120 points.
This placed them ahead of Cameroon with 865 points and Benin Republic with 610 points. The team clinched three individual titles, two U14 team event titles, and several podium finishes.
With victories in both cricket and tennis, Nigeria celebrates a morning filled with triumph and pride.
