1928- The occurrence of a total lunar eclipse
The world experienced a total lunar eclipse. Out of the two total lunar eclipse that happened that year, the June 3rd own was the first. The sightings were visible in Asia, Australia and the America.

1937- Edward VIII marries American divorcee, Walls Simpson
On this day in 1937, the Duke of Windsor, Edward VIII abdicated the throne to marry his American sweetheart, Walls Simpson who was a divorcee in Chateau de France. However, their marriage was controversial because Walls had been married twice and as at then the church does not support marriage between divorcees especially when their partners are still alive.
The wedding between the love birds did not have the attendance of any member of the royal family. Prior to this, his brother, King George VI was crowned king on May 12, 1937. Edward VIII was the first English monarch to voluntarily abdicate the throne.
1965- Astronaunt Edward White walks in space as the first American to do so
The Gemini IV Mission launched Astronaunt Edward White to space in a Gemini Capsule. Though, the initial plan was not for the astronaunt to walk in space but it happened that he walked in space for 23 minutes.
1968- Radical feminist, Valerie Solanas attempts the murder of Andy Warhol
Valerie takes law into her own hands after Andy Warhol claims to have misplaced the script for Valerie’s play, Up Your Ass. She shot him at The Factory along with Mario Amaya, an art critic. Later on, the SCUM Manifesto author came clean to the authorities. She was convicted guilty of assault, unauthorised possession of a weapon, and attempted murder. Despite having a defensive schizophrenia diagnosis, she spent three years in prison.

The 3rd of June every year is the World Bicycle Day. It is used to commemorate ‘the benefits of cycling for transportation, health, and sustainability.’ This is the 6th edition of this commemoration with the first endorsed by the United Nations in 2018.
