How allegations of wife beating nearly ruined my marriage – Teddy A

Reality TV star Tope Adenibuyan, popularly known as Teddy A, has opened up about the personal and public toll of past claims that he physically abused his wife, actress and media personality Bamike “Bambam” Olawunmi-Adenibuyan.

Speaking on a recent episode of the WithChude podcast, Teddy A described the allegations as false, shocking, and deeply upsetting for his family.

He said the reports spread rapidly on social media, accusing him of assaulting his wife, including while she was pregnant — claims he insisted were entirely untrue and unexpected.

Recalling the day the story broke, Teddy A said there was no tension at home.

“I woke up, went downstairs, and my wife was there watching a movie. She was pregnant and laughing,” he said.

He explained that he only sensed something was wrong when his phone started receiving an unusual number of alerts.

“I hadn’t posted anything. I was wondering what was trending and why my phone was blowing up,” he said.

As he read through online reactions, Teddy A said his wife became emotional and confused.

“She kept asking who could do this to us. Honestly, I didn’t know where it came from,” he added.

The former Big Brother Naija housemate said the accusations triggered widespread online debate and speculation, leaving him stunned at how fast the story gained traction.

He disclosed that after learning about the report, he reached out to his manager, who advised him to stay silent and let the issue die down.

However, he said that choice later had lasting consequences, as the claims continue to resurface.

“At the time, I didn’t understand the damage staying silent would do. Even now, when my wife and I post photos or videos, people still comment and ask if I beat her,” he said.

He described the situation as deeply painful, saying it changed how some people viewed him.

“It affected me because people began to see me in a way that wasn’t true,” he added.

Teddy A’s remarks have renewed discussions about the long-term effects of unverified allegations, social media narratives, and the importance of addressing false claims promptly.

Neither Teddy A nor Bambam has ever confirmed any incident of domestic abuse, and both have continued to publicly present a united front.
