How I was given a movie script to sleep with dog – Nkechi Blessing

Actress Nkechi Blessing has spoken about the type of roles she faced when she first joined Nollywood.

She said that some early offers made her rethink the kind of career she wanted to build.

She revealed this during The Honest Bunch podcast chat, explaining that one of her first scripts asked her to act a scene involving a dog.

The offer left her uncomfortable, and she felt accepting it would affect her image for a long time.

The actress said she refused the script and left the set, even though many young actresses around her rushed to accept it.

She explained that the scene did not match the future she wanted in the industry, especially as a newcomer.

According to her, leaving that location later led to an important meeting with filmmaker Emeka Duru, who showed interest in her talent.

That encounter paved the way for her first appearance in the movie Through The Fire, produced by Imem Isong.

Nkechi Blessing said the experience helped her learn early in her career that not every script should be accepted and that actors must guard the kind of image they create for themselves in the film industry.

She said: “Despite being a newcomer, I was given a script to sleep with a dog. I rejected it because I can’t start off my career like that. Imagine my first ever movie, I am sleeping with a dog. It doesn’t make sense. It is going to be a tag because whatever you start with is what people would associate you with. I didn’t want to be renowned as someone who sleeps with dogs in movies.

“So, I rejected that script. But immediately I threw it down, so many girls grabbed it. I’m not sure any of them are in the limelight today.”
