The MTN Nigeria Foundation has announced new scholarship opportunities to support education and empower the next generation of leaders in Nigeria.
Additionally, the Foundation has increased the annual award amount for eligible students from N200,000 to N300,000.
The scholarships are offered in three categories: the MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS), the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS), and the Top 10 UTME Scholarship.
MTN revealed these updates in a statement published on its official website on Friday.
According to the statement, the MTN Science and Technology Scholarship is open to 300-level students studying Science and technology-related courses in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).
Also, the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students is open to 200āand 300-level Blind students studying any course in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).

1. Verify Eligibility
Before applying for an MTN Scholarship, it’s essential to understand and meet the eligibility criteria. These scholarships are generally for undergraduate students in accredited Nigerian higher institutions. Confirm that you fulfill the minimum requirements, such as age, academic background, and CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average). Check the specific criteria listed by the MTN Foundation to ensure you qualify.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Institution of Study: Applicants must be enrolled in a Nigerian public tertiary institution, such as a university, polytechnic, or college of education. Both the MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) and the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) are available.
- Course of Study: The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship is for undergraduates in science or technology-related fields at public universities, polytechnics, or colleges of education. The MTN Scholarship for Blind Students is for visually impaired students in their second or third year at similar institutions.
- Level of Study: The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship is open to students moving from 200 level to 300 level and those currently in 300 level. The scholarship for blind students is available to those in their second or third year, including law students in their third year of a five-year program.
- Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA): STEM students at public universities or colleges of education must have a CGPA of 3.4 (on a 4.0 scale) or 3.5 (second-class upper). Those in public polytechnics entering the Higher National Diploma program must have a CGPA of 3.0 or higher from their Ordinary National Diploma program. Direct Entry students into the third year must have a CGPA of at least 3.0 (upper credit) in their relevant OND program. For visually impaired students, a CGPA of 2.5 or higher is required. Those at polytechnics must have completed the OND program with a minimum CGPA of 2.0 and be accepted into the HND program.
2. Collect Necessary Documents
Ensure all required documents are gathered and organized. These typically include:
- Recent passport photograph
- Valid identification card
- Admission letter
- Academic transcripts
- Letter of recommendation from a reputable academic referee
- A concise biography and explanation of why you deserve the scholarship
3. Access the MTN Foundation Scholarship Portal
Visit the MTN Foundation Scholarship portal via the official website at MTN Scholarships. Complete the 7-step application form, providing accurate personal details, contact information, and academic background. Ensure all information is correct and verifiable to avoid disqualification.
4. Review Your Application
After filling out the application and uploading the necessary documents, review all information for accuracy. Make any necessary edits or corrections.
5. Submit Your Application
Once you are confident in your application, submit it through the portal.
