How to smell nice without actually breaking the bank

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

As a Nigerian student, I have experimented with scents and discovered ways to smell nice without actually spending much. It’s just about strategy and the right combination. Trust me, I get the compliment of ā€˜ā€™you smell nice a lot’ and it’s for real.

You would find Nigerian perfume vendors saying, ā€œsmell nice without breaking the bankā€ but their least perfume costs about 10k. You might even buy that one and the scent is not long lasting. We have faced these hurdles ever since all the prices of things have skyrocketed. Your favorite scents are now twice their price and you are rethinking about getting them.

Good news, scent lovers. I have tried and tested these hacks to smell nice without actually breaking the bank. You do not have to spend more than #5,000. How do I do it? Let me tell you.

1. Combine a variety of ‘cheap’ scents

You want to smell good, unique and ambrosial. Buy a lot of ā€œcheapā€ scents- cheap as in price. You know those ones that cost #1,000 at most in small plastic bottles, you can get a variety of them. Try not to get contrasting scents, go for something fruity. Then, spray them all. Trust me, people would be asking you what is the name of your perfume? You would not be able to explain because they are a lot.

2. Use perfume oils

As a student, I’ve explored using perfume oils and I get them (30ml) at a wholesale price of 3 for #1, 050. After so much exploration, I found an intense scent that could last all day. I have also found subtle one yet lasting scent that I combine together. I use the subtle one on my clothes then the intense one at my pulse points.

3. Combine perfume oils and spray

Yes, this works well absolutely all the time. When you combine these two, you smell like different things all at once. You can spray your perfume on your body with perfume oil at pulse points.

4. To improvise for body mists, use jelly cologne that doubles as sanitisers.

My first experience using a jelly cologne was actually my aunt giving me one. The only one I have still tried out till date. It smelt very fruity and it would double as my deodorant. I do not give putrid smell when I sweat because I apply it to my underarms and even on my wrist. I am recommending the ā€œLovillea Gelly Cologneā€. It is the only one I know to do the job but if you know others, you can try it out too.

5. Use a scented detergent or soap to wash my clothes

E get why! Sometimes you forget to actually spray perfumes or apply oils but the scent your detergent has left on your clothes is enough to cover it all. You smell fresh. Though, you cannot rely on this but it helps you smell good and you only have to do a little in applying other scents.

6. Maintain proper personal hygiene.

Well, I trust that you maintain proper personal hygiene because there are some body odor perfumes cannot overcome. Make sure you bath thoroughly with soap and water at least twice a day especially in the dry season. Use bathing soaps that have this cooling effect after you might have perspired a lot. They do the job of cleaning you up better.
