“I cannot wait to wear the City shirt again” – Gundogan excited about England return

After making 304 appearances during his first spell with Manchester City, ex-Germany international Ilkay Gundogan returns to the Etihad.

During that period, he scored 60 goals and won 12 major titles. These included five Premier League titles and the prestigious Uefa Champions League.

He becomes City’s second summer acquisition following the arrival of Savinho from French outfit Troyes in a £33.6m deal.

33-year-old Gundogan cannot wait to work with Guardiola again

Gundogan has stated that Pep Guardiola is the best manager in the world and working with him again was a major factor in his decision to re-sign for the Cityzens.

“My seven years at Manchester City were a time of pure contentment for me, both on and off the pitch,” he told the Man City’s official website.

“I grew as a person and a player, developed a special relationship with the City fans and enjoyed amazing success. It was an exceptional period in my life.

“To have the opportunity to return here means so much. Everyone knows the respect I have for Pep – he is the best manager in the world and working with him every day makes you a better player.

You feel constantly challenged, which for any professional is exactly what you want. I cannot wait to work with him again.”
