“I did not apply for the Eagles job” – Sunday Oliseh

Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has turned down rumours that he applied for the vacant Super Eagles managerial position, NRTC reports.

Following the departure of Portuguese Jose Peseiro, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) earlier in the month declared the position vacant.

While speaking to the Punch Correspondent, Oliseh denied, in strong terms, applying for the job. He said he only showed interest in the job.

ā€œI did not apply for the Eagles job, reports that stated so are false,” Oliseh said.

“If Nigeria needed my help as a coach I would be willing to help if the conditions were right. Iā€™m open to helping Nigeria but I did not apply for the job.ā€

ā€œIf we (Nigeria) cannot offer our indigenous coaches opportunities to help the countryā€™s football, then who else will”, he said.

The former midfielder succeeded the late Stephen Keshi in 2015 as coach of the Super Eagles but resigned in 2016.

Oliseh was a prominent member of Nigeriaā€™s Golden Generation, which achieved fame in the 1990s. During that time, Nigeria won the Africa Cup Of Nations In 1994 And The 1996 Summer Olympics Gold Medal In Atlanta.

During this time, Nigerian players like Kanu Nwankwo, Victor Ikpeba, Rashidi Yekini, and others won individual awards as well as important trophies in Europe.

During his playing career, the former defensive midfielder represented clubs like Juventus, Genk, Borussia Dortmund, FC Kƶln, and Ajax.
