ICPC names John Odey new spokesperson

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has announced John Odey, a Deputy Director, as its new spokesperson.

This was announced in a statement signed by Clifford Oparaodu, the Secretary to the Commission on Thursday.

Odey assumed the role after succeeding Demola Bakare and will additionally head the Commission’s newly established Media and Public Communications Unit, which operates directly under the Office of the Honourable Chairman.

The ICPC anticipates that Odey’s vast experience in the field of communication will be instrumental in strengthening its public engagement, enhancing media relations, and supporting ongoing efforts to deepen transparency and public awareness regarding its anti-corruption mandate.

Odey brings a diverse professional background to the critical communications role.

His career began in media, where he worked as an editor and later gained broadcast experience as a scriptwriter and presenter.

Since joining the ICPC, he has served in various strategic capacities across Public Enlightenment, Protocol, and Zonal Operations, building expertise in media and public communication, strategic messaging, protocol, and reputation management.

Academically, Odey holds a degree in English/Literature, a Master’s Degree in Leadership Studies, and an MPhil in Leadership and Strategic Studies, complemented by a Professional Diploma in Public Relations.

He is also a certified member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
