Over the years, being called a tech bro/sis has always been an enviable decoration for people who know how to code, and these coders wear this title so proudly and sometimes even so condescendingly.

This is because mastering coding is extremely challenging, and coding skills aren’t for the fainthearted and lazy people. In life, the rarity of something, or how hard something is to get or know, determines how valuable that thing will be, as evident in this case.

If you can’t easily do or understand the complexities of what I do, that means my brain is wired or configured differently from yours, and we’re not mates.

Today, I’ve curated 10 things tech bros do or have; and, if you have or do 6 out of these 10 things, you should start calling yourself a tech bro/sis even if you don’t know Jack about coding.

1. Sleeky PCs/MacBooks

Do you have a sleeky Macbook or PC, then why have you not started calling yourself a tech bro? Even though you use it for something completely unrelated to coding or tech.

2. iPhone X/XR/11/12/13

Not only do you have a PC or Mac book, but you also often show your iPhone’s back camera in front of a toilet mirror, then you should start considering this tech bro/sis title.

3. Mifi/Router

Tech bros don’t use their iPhone’s hotspot with their PC, they buy a 5G router or mifi for them to stay connected to the internet. It’s faster, more efficient, and classy.

4. Wearing shorts/crocs seven days a week

What’s tech bro without their shorts and Crocs while walking down the streets or even to work, a restaurant, a coffee shop, or just anywhere? By their dress, you shall know them, They don’t wear flamboyant dresses or ostentatious ones.

5. Carrying a power bank everywhere

Tech bros’ iPhones must not die. That’s an abomination, so they carry a power bank, which, in most cases, is usually big. In some cases, it might even be two power banks.

6. Earbuds

While you wear your earbuds probably to filter out noise from the environment or appear classic, tech bros do that to make their work easier as listening to music with their earbuds puts them in the mood for work.

7. Ability to use Google Docs, Microsoft Teams, and Slack

Knowing how to use Google Docs, Microsoft Teams, and Slack is a rare skill. If you can find your way around these apps and also utilize them effectively, then you’re already a tech bro. Don’t care about what naysayers say.

8. You can order a ride, via Uber or Bolt

If you live within Lagos, Ibadan, or Abuja, you can conveniently order Uber or Bolt with prices from five thousand naira, is there another name to call you aside from a tech bro who makes ‘blood money’?

9. You mostly work from home – remotely

Remote jobs have taken over now. Most tech bros/sis work from home and seldom go to work. They rarely go out too as they can cook indoors or order their food from nearby restaurants.

Some of them even have multiple girlfriends who often come cook for them while they immerse themselves in work.

10. Decent home workspace

What else can you be doing with this high-tech workspace aside from being a coder, website developer, or designer of some sort? So, if you can afford this, you should take yourself very seriously and start calling yourself a tech bro.

Now, rate yourself. If you score 6/10, you should start calling yourself a tech bro or you’re probably one in the first place.
