The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has directed immediate measures to improve professionalism and operational efficiency across the Nigeria Police Force.

Speaking during a virtual conference with strategic managers on January 13, 2025, the IGP outlined new initiatives, including specialized training for Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigators and weekly lectures for police personnel nationwide.

Addressing tactical commanders, Commissioners of Police (CPs), Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), and the Force Management Team, the IGP commended their efforts in combating crime in 2024 but emphasised the need to step up anti-crime strategies for 2025.

He called for greater professionalism in police operations and highlighted the importance of equipping investigators with advanced skills to handle complex and high-profile criminal cases effectively.

To achieve this, the IGP ordered immediate training programs for CID investigators, focusing on enhancing their technical competence and investigative capabilities.

Additionally, reorientation courses will be conducted for all police personnel to promote attitudinal change and adherence to ethical standards.

These courses will cover human rights, community policing, ethical conduct, and the appropriate use of force.

Egbetokun also mandated the introduction of weekly lectures at divisional, area command, and state levels.

These sessions aim to foster continuous professional development, keeping officers updated on legal frameworks, technological advancements, and best practices in law enforcement.

The lectures will serve as a platform for knowledge sharing and interactive discussions, encouraging a culture of learning and improvement within the Force.

Reiterating the importance of accountability, Egbetokun directed all strategic managers to ensure professionalism and discipline among their personnel.

He stressed that supervisors would be held responsible for any misconduct by their subordinates and called for proactive leadership to maintain public peace and order.

The IGP reaffirmed his commitment to building a more effective and trustworthy police force, dedicated to serving Nigerians with integrity, respect, and professionalism.
