Improve your focus with these 5 tips

The importance of focus can not be underestimated in our lives. If you want to improve your concentration, there are practical and effective ways to go about it. Keep reading to find out how.

First, it is important to narrow down why you can’t focus. For most people, it is usually as a result of their internal thoughts going on and on. Another common culprit is stress. Generally, your lifestyle will determine the amount of focus you will have. Other factors like noise pollution, phone calls, notifications can also compound your lack of focus. When this goes on for so long, it results in what is known as brain fog. Brain fog is a sign of decreased focus or a feeling of mental cloudiness.

Tips to improve your focus

1. Keep a to-do list

Some people may be of the opinion that writing tasks down makes the brain lazy. However, this can help you stay focused especially if you have so much to do. Writing tasks down will reduce the mental stress of trying to remember every single duty.

2. Eat clean

Eating healthy food will fuel your brain, body and aid mental clarity. Foods high in healthy fats, protein, fibre and vitamins are essential.

3. Do not multitask

Multitasking is a myth. The brain does not have the capacity to concentrate on more than one thing at a time. Choose one task at a time. While the brain can shuffle between two or more tasks, multitasking reduces the efficiency of tasks. Mistakes happen more often when multitasking.

4. Create a routine

Routines can be boring but they are also proven to help improve focus. Figure out what works best for you and create a routine around it.

5. Curate your environment

Whatever type of work you’re doing, choosing the right environment is essential in making sure you focus. If you do not like noise, it’s important to go as far away as possible from it. Once you do that often, your brain will recognize quiet moments usually mean work.

Limiting distractions can sound like such a hefty task to do but once you crack it, there is no going back.
