Insecurity: Kebbi orders immediate closure of state tertiary institutions

The Kebbi State Government has directed all state-owned tertiary institutions to shut down immediately due to escalating security concerns across the state.

The only exemption is the College of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery, Birnin Kebbi.

The announcement was made on Saturday by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Issa Tunga, in Birnin Kebbi. According to him, the decision followed “cases of insecurity” reported in multiple parts of the state in recent weeks.

“The affected tertiary institutions are the State Polytechnic, Dakingari; Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero; College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega; and the College of Education, Argungu,” he stated.

Tunga noted that the College of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery, Birnin Kebbi, is the only institution excluded from the shutdown.

He urged the leadership of all affected schools to ensure full compliance with the government’s directive. The commissioner also appealed for calm among students and staff, assuring them that updates would be communicated as the situation evolves.

“They should remain calm as the new resumption date will be communicated to them at the appropriate time,” he added.

The directive was issued through a statement signed by Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the state governor.
