J.J Omojuwa is a social media influencer who has gained many followers over the years especially on Twitter. Some years ago, many saw him as a new breed with a genuine desire for a new Nigeria. However, with the latest happenings, people are beginning to develop contrary views about the 36 year old author and socio-political commentator.
Social media influence is a trend that has come to stay. For this reason, people with a large social media following get deals to share information on their pages because of their wide reach. From promoting brands, these influencers are being contracted to disseminate certain information with their followers – either it is true or false – for financial gains. One of such persons who has been alleged to have fallen into this category is J.J Omojuwa.

On April 8, BuzzFeed News reported that Omojuwa’s PR company, Alpha Reach Limited, was among the companies contracted to tweet in favor of Columbian business man, Alex Saab. Who is being tried for alleged money laundering case. This news broke out in the media and Omojuwa got a lot of public backlash. Nevertheless, he has refuted the allegations saying that his company was not involved.
Oby Ezekwesili’s name gets dragged in
Former minister of education and convener of Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) campaign, Obiageli Ezekesili, was named as one of the directors of Alpha Reach Ltd. Apparently, the former minister perceived the news as a dent on her image. Hence, she took to Twitter to debunk this assertion and accused Omojuwa of using her name fraudulently without her permission. Also, she demanded he tendered legal documents to back his claim.
Consequently, this news did not go down well with the social media influencer who has known the former minister personally since 2011.
On April 14, Omojuwa equally served her a lawsuit publicly which made the streets of Twitter to go on a rampage. Ezekwesili noted that his lawsuit still did not show any legal authorization from her being a director of Alpha Reach Ltd. She has sent a petition to the Police accusing Omojuwa of fraud. Some of their followers requested that the issue should be handled privately. Meanwhile, others jeered them and asked for more ‘’trashing’’.
The agenda yet untold
Towards the 2015 presidential elections, Omojuwa was known for his Tweets against former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. He hurled insulting words on the former leader. Many of those words were not constructive criticisms. Instead, they appeared personal, disrespectful and laced with some undertones.

Besides, some suspected that he was either being paid or desired a position in the Buhari administration. While Omojuwa complained of the hate that was thrown at him due to the revelations of BuzzFeed News. Lots of people felt he had no right to complain since he had thrown the same level of hate on others indiscriminately, most especially former president – Goodluck Jonathan. This present revelation incites speculations that JJ was probably paid to tweet against Jonathan.
On the other hand, Ezekwesili’s relationship with Omojuwa gave them the tag of ‘’birds of a feather’’. They have been likened to people who shield themselves under the wings of patriotism to achieve their selfish desires. Furthermore, there are assumptions that BBOG campaign might have been a sham to slander the government of Goodluck Jonathan.
In light of the Omojuwa revelations, more social-political commentators are now under scrutiny. People are beginning to drift away from seeing relevance in the message being passed to the intentions behind it.
The case between Omojuwa and Ezekwesili is being handled by Falana & Falana’s Chambers, both as a defense and prosecuting counsel respectively. Likewise, the law firm is equally defending Alex Saab in court.
This seems like the beginning of many revelations to come. Is Omojuwa a social media influencer who thrives on using his platform for selfish gains, or is he truly a patriot who seeks for a better nation for all? Time will tell.
