The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has uncovered that 21 candidates attempted to gain admission during the 2023 academic session using fake Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) results.
A policy document obtained in Abuja reveals that out of the 21 candidates, 12 were recommended by Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
However, JAMB did not approve these recommendations.
The board noted that these cases point to significant lapses in the admission process, particularly due to insufficient certificate screening procedures at the involved institutions.

JAMB stressed the importance of proper certification, stating that all documents must bear the signature of the institution’s head, whether it be the Vice-Chancellor, Provost, or Rector.
In total, five institutions have been implicated in this issue, with ABU Zaria being the most notable.
In response to these findings, JAMB reiterated its dedication to upholding the education standards in Nigeria and preventing fraudulent activities.
“These proactive measures, as well as others that are in the pipeline, are to ensure that the gains recorded in the education sector, especially the examination sub-sector, over the years, are not eroded by unscrupulous individuals,”Ā JAMB stated.
This discovery follows JAMB’s 2021 introduction of the Nigerian Post-Secondary Education Data System verification platform, which was designed to combat the faking of IJMB and JUPEB results.
