Chelsea are cautiously optimistic about Reece James’ latest hamstring injury after initial scans provided some encouraging news. Despite the setback, the scans confirm the England international has not aggravated his previous injuries.
However, a fresh hamstring issue has emerged, raising new concerns for both player and club.
While external worries mount, Chelsea remains careful in offering a recovery timeline. Reports suggest James could miss at least a month, as he could potentially be out for the rest of the year, but the club is focused on easing pressure on their captain. They want to prioritize his rehabilitation and ensure a careful approach to his return.
James has openly shared his mental struggles during his prolonged battle with injuries over recent years. His December 2022 hamstring surgery in Finland was expected to end this frustrating cycle. It was also meant to help him regain his England spot and play regularly for Chelsea. Unfortunately, another setback in training during the November international break has derailed those hopes once more.

The 24-year-old, who has now suffered his second injury of the season, has been sidelined from international duty since March 2023. Meanwhile, Chelseaās overhauled medical team continues working to improve his physical resilience. Their goal is to prepare him for the high demands of playing as a modern full-back at an elite level.
Ahead of Chelseaās Conference League clash against Heidenheim on Thursday, manager Enzo Maresca commented on Jamesā condition.
James’ return date uncertain
āYes [he’s had a scan] ā the only thing we can say is that he is getting better day by day,” Maresca said. āWe don’t know how many days he needs. He’s getting better.”
James, who signed a lucrative contract extension worth a reported Ā£250,000-a-week until 2028, has played just 20 Premier League matches since he re-committed his future to the Blues. Four of those came against top sides like Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester United, and Arsenal before this latest injury.
For now, Chelsea remains focused on carefully managing their captainās fitness and ensuring a long-term solution to his persistent issues.
