Leicester City have confirmed that Jamie Vardy will depart this summer, ending a historic 13-year spell with the club. Signed from Fleetwood Town in 2012 for £1 million, Vardy’s journey has been nothing short of legendary.
During his time with the Foxes, he became their all-time great, not just in goals, but in impact and influence. While other players came and went, Vardy remained the heartbeat of Leicester’s golden era. He will bow out after Leicester’s final home fixture against Ipswich Town on May 18.
Across nearly 500 appearances, Vardy scored close to 200 goals, winning major honours including the Premier League, FA Cup, and Community Shield. Although others contributed, no player better symbolised Leicester’s remarkable rise from underdogs to champions.
Leicester Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said: “Jamie is unique. He is a special player and an even more special person.” He added that Vardy will always be welcomed with open arms at King Power Stadium.

Despite being 38, Vardy’s hunger never waned, as he played a vital role in securing two Championship titles—ten years apart. Moreover, his goals propelled Leicester through European campaigns in both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

However, his most unforgettable moment came in 2015/16 when he led the club to a 5000/1 Premier League triumph. During that season, he set a league record by scoring in 11 consecutive matches – an achievement yet to be matched.
He later claimed the Golden Boot in the 2019/20 season. And in 2021, he helped Leicester win their first-ever FA Cup, having played in every round since the competition’s earliest stages.

Vardy leaves as Leicester’s third-highest scorer and appearance maker. Therefore, fans will celebrate not just his goals, but the passion and perseverance he brought to the pitch every week.
Indeed, Leicester City will bid farewell to a man whose story remains one of football’s most inspiring fairy tales.
