Jannik Sinner stunned the crowd at Flushing Meadows by clinching his first US Open title on Sunday. The Italian world No. 1 defeated Taylor Fritz in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5, to win the championship.
With this victory, Sinner joins an elite group of players who have won both the Australian Open and US Open in the same season. He is only the fourth man to achieve this feat, following Mats Wilander, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic.
Sinner has had a remarkable year, leading the Tour with five titles, including the Cincinnati Masters. His impressive 55-5 record in 2024 highlights his dominance on the hard courts.

Fritz, cheered on by a star-studded crowd including Taylor Swift and her boyfriend Travis Kelce, was aiming to end a 21-year drought for American men at the US Open. The last American to win the title was Andy Roddick in 2003.
Despite facing controversy over an anti-doping scandal earlier this year, Sinner focused on his game. He had two positive tests in March but avoided a ban, letting his performance speak for him on the court.
In the final, Sinner set the tone early with a commanding forehand winner. He broke Fritz’s serve twice in the first set and maintained control throughout the match.
Fritz managed to hold his own, especially in the second set, where he had opportunities to even the score. However, Sinner’s decisive backhand secured the set and kept him ahead.
The American managed to break Sinner’s serve in the third set, briefly igniting hope among his supporters. Yet, Sinner quickly responded by breaking back and closing out the match with two additional games.
Sinnerās win not only makes him the first Italian man to win the US Open but also caps off an extraordinary season. His triumph marks a significant milestone in his career and adds to Italyās tennis legacy.
