Jigawa govt declares Wednesday public holiday to celebrate 34 years of state creation

The Jigawa State Government has announced that Wednesday (today) will be observed as a public holiday in honour of the state’s 34th anniversary.

Jigawa, which was officially established on August 27, 1991, after being carved out of the old Kano State, shares the milestone with other states created during the same exercise, including Yobe, Enugu, Bauchi, and Kogi.

The declaration was contained in a statement issued by the state’s Head of Service, Muhammad Dagaceri, and circulated to reporters in Dutse, the state capital.

Dagaceri explained that the holiday was set aside to give residents and public servants the opportunity to take part fully in the anniversary activities.

“The declaration aims to allow people to properly participate in the anniversary events and communal prayers without work distractions,” the statement added.

Dagaceri encouraged citizens to use the day to reflect on the journey of the state, appreciate its progress, and seek God’s blessings for both Jigawa and the country.

The government congratulated the people of Jigawa on the milestone, noting the importance of unity and continuous development as the state enters its 35th year.

“This move reflects the state’s commitment to honouring its unique history and promoting community spirit among its people,” it added.
