Kevin De Bruyne has officially announced that he will leave Manchester City at the end of the current season, drawing the curtain on a ten-year stint filled with remarkable achievements.
In a heartfelt open letter shared on his social media pages on Friday, the Belgian midfielder confirmed that his time at the Etihad Stadium is nearing its end.
“Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here—and you deserve to hear it from me first,” De Bruyne wrote.

Looking back on his journey in Manchester, the 33-year-old credited the city and its people for profoundly shaping his life.
“Football led me to all of you and to this city. Chasing my dream, not knowing this period would change my life. This city. This club. These people… gave me EVERYTHING. I had no choice but to give EVERYTHING back!”

Since joining City from Wolfsburg in 2015, De Bruyne has become a central figure in the club’s most successful era. Underlining this success, he noted, “And guess what—we won EVERYTHING.”
The midfielder also spoke about what Manchester has meant to his family.
“Suri, Rome, Mason, Michèle, and I are beyond grateful for what this place has meant to our family. ‘Manchester’ will forever be on our kids’ passports—and more importantly, in each of our hearts. This will always be our HOME,” he shared.
In his message, he expressed gratitude to everyone who played a part in his journey at the club.
“We cannot thank the city, club, staff, teammates, friends, and family enough for this 10-year ride. Every story comes to an end, but this has definitely been the best chapter,” he said.
As he prepares to say goodbye, De Bruyne called on fans to savor the remaining moments of his City career alongside him.
“Let’s enjoy these last moments together!”
De Bruyne, who wears the number 17 shirt, remains a key player for Manchester City as they aim to finish the season with more trophies.
