Kunle Afolayan wins Tourism Entrepreneur of the Year at Oyo Tourism Summit


Renowned filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has received the Tourism Entrepreneur of the Year award at the recently concluded International Tourism Investment Summit, which took place in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The honour was conferred during the Governor’s Dinner and Tourism Awards Night, the grand finale of the three-day summit held from July 22 to 24 at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

With the theme #ITSOyoState2025, the summit brought together a diverse range of stakeholders—including government officials, investors, developers, and creatives—to discuss innovative ways of enhancing Oyo State’s tourism industry, while safeguarding its cultural heritage and fostering employment opportunities.

Kunle Afolayan, the visionary behind the KAP Film Village & Resort in Igbojaye, Oyo State, was celebrated for his exceptional work in creating a dynamic space that bridges storytelling, tourism, and African heritage. The resort, which combines elements of nature, cinema, and hospitality, has emerged as a magnet for both tourists and creatives, offering an immersive experience grounded in African identity.

In response to the award, KAP management stated, “We’re truly grateful for this recognition. It’s not just about one man’s dream. It’s about a team that continues to work with passion to build something lasting.”

They extended their gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde, Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, Akinwale Akinwole (Chairman, Oyo State Local Government Service Commission), Tola Akerele (CEO, National Theatre), and the Ministry of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy for their ongoing support.

“This award is not the end,” the KAP team added.
“It’s fuel to keep going, to keep dreaming, and to keep building something that makes Nigeria proud.”
