Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Omotosho Samuel, a forest guard who lost his life during a fierce gun battle with kidnappers in the Koro community of Ekiti Local Government Area.

In a move to honour the fallen officer’s bravery, the governor has announced a N10 million support package for Samuel’s family.

He described the gesture as a token of the state’s gratitude for his ultimate sacrifice.

The late Samuel was part of a security team, including fellow forest guards and local vigilantes, that launched a bold assault on kidnappers attempting to flee through the forest.

While the operation challenged the criminals, Samuel unfortunately fell during the exchange.

AbdulRazaq hailed the operative as a martyr in the state’s ongoing struggle against insecurity, noting that his name would be etched in history as a hero of the collective war against banditry.

“He is our hero, and we ask God to give succour to his family,” the governor stated in a release issued yesterday by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye.

The governor used the opportunity to commend the “bravery and patriotism” of the state’s grassroots security architecture.

He emphasised that the synergy between forest guards and vigilantes remains a critical component of his administration’s strategy to secure rural borders and farming communities.

The governor further extended his heartfelt condolences to the Samuel family and the deceased’s comrades who fought alongside him, praying for the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
