The Kwara State Government has advised residents to exercise increased vigilance and minimise non-essential outdoor movements as security forces intensify operations against criminal elements in the state’s border areas.

The advisory, issued yesterday, follows an escalation of joint security force attacks on suspected kidnappers’ dens located in border towns shared by Kwara and Kogi States.

These areas are believed to be where the criminals have been taking refuge.

The Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, urged residents, particularly those in Ekiti, Ifelodun, Isin, Oke Ero, and Irepodun Local Government Areas, to be highly cautious.

“We urge people to be very vigilant and limit their movements to only very necessary routines. That is to avoid being caught unawares as the kidnappers are fleeing their hideouts. We do not want law-abiding citizens to be affected,” the commissioner stated.

She acknowledged that the temporary restriction on movement may cause inconveniences for residents in the affected areas but stated that the government regrets the disruption.

Olukoju went on to commend the security forces for their renewed and vigorous efforts to neutralise the criminals.

She called on the forces to maintain the operations until the kidnappers are “totally neutralised and flushed out of our forests.”
