The North Central Zonal Conference of Women and Youths in Agric Business and Entrepreneurship concluded in Ilorin, Kwara State, with resounding calls for government at all levels to empower citizens through agricultural vocational skills for sustainable development.
At the event, the Kwara State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Oloruntoyosi Thomas, reaffirmed the state governmentās commitment to inclusivity in its agricultural policies.
She revealed that 50 per cent of all state agricultural programs are dedicated to empowering women, youths, and persons with disabilities.
She added that women and youths are central to every programme designed by the state because the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration recognised their critical role in economic transformation.
Echoing her sentiments, the Commissioner for Environment and Forestry, Nafisat Buge, urged participants to embrace agriculture as a profitable and dignified venture.
Buge noted that agriculture is neither dirty nor something to be ashamed of; but āit is a noble and rewarding business that significantly contributes to our economy.ā

The Director-General of the Nigeria Agric Business for Women and Youth Farmers Entrepreneurs (NABG), Jafar Abubakar, highlighted the transformative potential of agriculture in fostering independence and driving economic growth.
He stressed the importance of integrating technology into agricultural practices to boost productivity and efficiency.
āWomen, who already make up half of our population, contribute significantly to Nigeriaās GDP. Through agriculture, combined with technology and innovative practices, they can achieve even greater heights,ā Abubakar stated.
Abubakar also praised the Kwara State Government under Governor AbdulRazaq for its youth-centric policies and programmes, noting that investments in agricultural business would reduce unemployment while ensuring food security and economic transformation.
A standout moment at the conference was a presentation by Abdulafeez Alao, a local entrepreneur, who showcased his eco-friendly briquette product, āEedu-Ramoni.ā
Made from farm waste, the innovation offers a sustainable alternative to wood-based charcoal, addressing deforestation and environmental concerns.
The product received widespread acclaim for its potential to balance environmental sustainability with economic benefits.
The conference ended with the recognition of outstanding entrepreneurs excelling in various agricultural ventures, inspiring participants to explore opportunities within the sector’s value chains.
Organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the event reinforced its mission to leverage agriculture as a driver of sustainable development, empowering women and youths, and fostering economic growth across Kwara State and beyond.
