Kylian Mbappé received the 2025 European Golden Boot at Santiago Bernabéu on October 31, becoming the first player to win the World Cup, Champions League, and European Golden Boots. The 26-year-old striker has accomplished this unprecedented treble, wearing different jersey numbers for each achievement.

Mbappé secured the World Cup Golden Boot in 2022, wearing France’s number 10 shirt, scoring eight goals, with a final hat-trick against Argentina. Despite France’s penalty shootout defeat, the forward edged Lionel Messi on assists to claim the tournament’s top scorer award.

Earlier achievements

At Paris Saint-Germain, Mbappé won the 2023-24 Champions League Golden Boot wearing number 7 as the competition’s outright top scorer. The achievement came during his final season with the French club before departing for Real Madrid.

His 31 La Liga goals in Real Madrid’s number 9 shirt earned him 62 points under UEFA’s coefficient system, ahead of Viktor Gyökeres and Mohamed Salah. The European Golden Boot recognises the continent’s top league scorer through a weighted points system.

Mbappé scored 39 goals across all competitions in his first Real Madrid campaign, breaking Iván Zamorano’s 1992-93 club record of 37 debut-season goals. The previous benchmark had stood for over three decades.

His El Clásico hat-trick on May 11, 2025, made him the third player this century to achieve the feat in La Liga. Only Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez had previously accomplished this milestone in the famous derby.

No other player has won all three major Golden Boot awards. Even legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi never secured this particular combination of honours across their careers.

For the 2025-26 season, Mbappé switched to Real Madrid’s number 10 shirt following Luka Modrić’s departure, with Endrick taking the vacated number 9.

Mbappé becomes only the third Real Madrid player to win the European Golden Boot, joining Hugo Sánchez and Cristiano Ronaldo. He is the first Los Blancos recipient since Ronaldo’s 2014-15 triumph.
