La Liga: Barcelona return to summit after 1-0 win against Celta Vigo

Barcelona have returned to the top of La Liga table courtesy of their 1-0 win against Celta Vigo at Camp Nou on Sunday night.

The Catalan giant leads defending champion, Real Madrid on the table on goal difference.

The host got the maximum points through a goal from Pedri when the 19-year-old reacted quickest to turn home from three yards. He got his second goal of the season after Gavi’s cross from the left.

Barcelona produced an underwhelming performance but still managed to get the business done. They were lucky to run out winners as Celta were seeking an equalizer after going behind. They came closest to scoring when Jorgen Strand Larsen had a header disallowed.

El-Classico will determine Barcelona-Real Madrid positions for the time being

Real Madrid had gone top of the league with a 1-0 win at Getafe on Saturday.

Both sides have won seven and drawn one of their opening eight league games. Their clash in the first El Classico of the season next Sunday (15:15 BST) will now determine who will still be at the summit.

Barcelona had lost two of their opening three Champions League group games coming into this game.

Xavi’s side lacked cohesion and quality for large parts of the game. They were lucky to win Celta that improved after going behind but failed to show a clinical edge in the final third to earn a deserved point.

Barcelona have now only conceded one goal in the league so far this season and have kept four clean sheets in four home games.
