Former Oyo State Governor and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, has expressed support for the emergency rule declared in Rivers State, saying it has brought relative peace to the state.

News Round The Clock recalls that President Bola Tinubu imposed emergency rule in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, following a prolonged political crisis between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the state House of Assembly loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike.

The president suspended both the governor and the lawmakers for six months and appointed a sole administrator to oversee the state.

Tinubu’s decision has sparked widespread controversy, with critics arguing that it violates the Nigerian Constitution.

However, speaking to journalists at his residence on Ondo Street, Bodija, Ibadan, after Eid-el-Fitri prayers on Tuesday, Ladoja described the move as a necessary step to ease tensions and restore order in the state.

“The emergency rule declared by the President in Rivers is a welcomed development if that is what will restore peace back to the state,” Ladoja said.

He urged the suspended governor and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to put their differences aside in the interest of the state.

“Some of them have approached the court; even the PDP governors had gone to the Supreme Court. The judgment will be faster. So, whatever the court says will bind both parties,” he added.
