The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has launched an intensive enforcement operation across key industrial areas of the state, targeting facilities that fail to comply with mandatory fire safety regulations.
The on-the-spot inspection exercise, led by the agency’s Controller General, Margaret Abimbola Adeseye, followed a recent rise in fire incidents within the metropolis.
The initiative aims to strengthen oversight of high-risk commercial and industrial facilities to prevent avoidable disasters.
During the first phase of the exercise, the enforcement team inspected facilities within the Amuwo-Odofin Industrial Layout and along the Badagry Expressway corridor.
Officials assessed several critical safety requirements, including the validity of fire safety certificates and fire outbreak insurance, the functionality of firefighting equipment, and compliance with proper storage and ventilation standards.

The team also examined the readiness of workers and internal systems to respond effectively to fire emergencies.
Adeseye expressed concern over the outcome of the inspections, noting that while a few companies maintained acceptable safety standards, a significant number failed to meet basic requirements.
According to her, common violations included blocked gangways and poor storage arrangements, both of which could worsen the impact of a potential fire outbreak.
She stressed that the state government had adopted a zero-tolerance approach to safety negligence, warning that companies that ignore corrective directives would face sanctions.

She added that the agency’s priority remained the protection of lives, property and business investments across the state.
The enforcement team inspected several manufacturing, logistics and commercial facilities during the operation. These included Prima Corporation Limited, Lacasera Company Plc (Plant 2), and Ovas Luxury Doors.
Other locations visited included Bijoux Building Company, Sweet Home Bathroom Limited, and Adems Market.
The team also inspected cold-storage facilities at Premium Aquaculture Limited and companies within the Primlaks Nigeria Group, including Paramount Frozen Foods and Venus Processing and Packaging.
The fire service stated that the enforcement drive is part of a broader statewide initiative aimed at preventing industrial disasters and protecting the state’s economic assets.
Adeseye added that inspections would continue across other industrial clusters in Lagos as the government intensifies regulatory enforcement under its development agenda.
