Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering efficient and effective public services in line with its THEMES Plus Agenda, aimed at transforming the state into a 21st-century economy.

Speaking at the opening of a three-day retreat for Chief Executive Officers and Heads of Parastatals, Agencies, and Government-Owned Companies, held at the Jubilee Chalets in Epe, the Head of Service (HoS), Olabode Agoro, emphasised the importance of collective leadership and governance in driving the state’s development.

“Our gathering today underscores the strategic importance of your roles as Chief Executives and leaders of critical institutions that drive governance, service delivery, and economic growth in our great state,” Agoro stated.

“The parastatals and agencies under your leadership are key enablers of this administration’s policies and programmes, directly impacting the lives of over 20 million residents.”

He further noted that the retreat provides an opportunity to review strategies and align efforts toward achieving the fourth pillar of the THEMES Plus Agenda—positioning Lagos as a modern economy.

He acknowledged the challenges of public sector leadership, including balancing service delivery with revenue generation, managing resources, and driving innovation within bureaucratic structures.

The retreat, he said, is designed to equip participants with the necessary tools and insights to navigate these challenges while ensuring resilience, sustainable growth, and improved governance.

In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Parastatals Monitoring, Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro, described the retreat’s theme—Leadership and Good Governance: Strategies for Enhancing Performance, Service Delivery, and Revenue Generation—as timely and crucial in addressing the evolving demands of governance.

“As Chief Executive Officers and Heads of Parastatals, Agencies, and Government-Owned Companies, your roles are pivotal. You are the drivers of innovation, custodians of public trust, and stewards of institutional excellence.

“The success of Lagos State’s developmental agenda depends largely on the strength of your leadership and the effectiveness of your strategies,” Obanikoro said.

He urged participants to use the retreat as an opportunity to reassess their approaches, recalibrate priorities, and renew their commitment to achieving the vision of ‘A Greater Lagos.’

The Permanent Secretary of the Parastatals Monitoring Office, Adetutu Ososanya, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his visionary leadership and dedication to enhancing the efficiency of the public sector.

She encouraged attendees to embrace transparency, accountability, and efficiency in their respective agencies.

The retreat is expected to provide valuable insights and practical strategies to strengthen governance, enhance public service delivery, and drive sustainable economic growth in Lagos State.
