The Lagos State Government, through its Lagos Resilience Office (LASRO), has hosted the 2025 Mid-Year Review of the Lagos Resilience Strategy (LRS) at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja.

The gathering convened essential stakeholders, implementing bodies, and partners to evaluate ongoing initiatives aimed at bolstering the state’s resilience against various challenges.

Launched in 2020, the LRS is a wide-ranging framework designed to protect Lagos from diverse ‘shocks and stresses’ that could jeopardise its stability.

The strategy is structured around four core pillars: economic, social, environmental, and physical resilience, and is presently undergoing a crucial assessment.

The mid-year session served as a forum for attendees to gauge progress, pinpoint difficulties, and devise improved implementation strategies for the latter half of the year.

The event also promoted the exchange of knowledge, collaboration, and innovative solutions among different ministries, agencies, and resilience partners.

Folayinka Dania, the Chief Resilience Officer, represented by Tpl. Olufemi Dada, Assistant Director of Town Planning, addressed the workshop.

She explained that the review would scrutinise LASRO’s accomplishments, resilience-building activities at the local government level, and areas requiring enhancement.

Dania highlighted that over 30 priority projects, which align with the Lagos Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan, are currently under evaluation.

“The Lagos Resilience Strategy includes various components that will be reviewed at this stage,” Dania stated.

“This includes progress made by LASRO, decentralised resilience activities in local government areas, and the ongoing assessment of key projects aimed at enhancing the city’s disaster preparedness.”

Mariam Ogunkoya from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources also spoke, noting that the workshop provided ministries and agencies with a clearer understanding of their respective contributions to the resilience agenda.

She announced that her ministry plans to pilot a clean energy scheme for Lagos residents, commencing with civil servants.

This initiative will enable beneficiaries to pay for clean energy solutions through extended instalment plans.
